So here we are at the end of 2011. My first full year training and racing triathlons. Did my first tri in June of 2010 so only got a half year in there. So let's review the training miles/yards I put in.
Swim
352,122.7 yards or 200.1 miles, 136 hours 50 minutes.
Really tried to get some swim yardage in. I swam 4 days a week through March. Then 3 days a week from April through September. Took about 6 weeks off after my last tri (Rev3 on October 9th). Then I jumped back into the pool 4 days a week through Christmas. I got kinda motivated near the end of the year when I figured out that 200 miles was attainable. The nice thing about swimming is that my local Y opens the pool at 5am. So its easy to hit the pool and still make it to work by 7am. Pool's always open, rain or shine, day or night.
High Month: March 46,200 yards
High Week: March 14th 13,200 yards
Bike
3,224.7 miles, 159 hours 6 minutes (Plus 21.5 hours in spin class)
I didn't count any mileage for spin class, so I was pretty happy to get over 3K miles in. I've found that biking really is the hardest to find the time to do. Mostly due to it needing to be daylight. Sometimes I would get rained out as well. I didn't log a lot of miles early in the year. I didn't get my bike until the 3rd week of January and didn't get much riding in in February or March.
High Month: August 595 miles
High Week: August 1st 183 miles
Run
1,261.7 miles, 148 hours 11 minutes
Really low mileage in January and February due to my right leg ITB syndrome killing me. I read that 'Born to Run' book (which I really enjoyed). I just got a little overzealous and realized that there is a reason that I have worn orthotics in my shoes all the time since I was about 13 years old. I really didn't start feeling up to snuff until halfway through the year. No problems since, however.
High Month: September 168.2 miles
High Week: July 4th 53 miles (Tri Training)
High Week: October 17th 62 miles (Marathon Training)
Lift Weights
25 hours
Blasphemy, I know. But I try to lift weight (upper body only) 3 times a week for about 20 minutes each time. I feel it helps me on the run as well as the swim. And it helps me to look damn good! I didn't start lifting weights until April and then stopped after the marathon.
Summary
4,686.4 miles, 490 hours 38 minutes
Not bad for my first full year. Definitely looking to up the totals in 2012 as my focus will be on the Half distance. Sprints in 2010, then Olympics in 2011, so Half is the next logical step, right? Don't jump to the conclusion that Iron is the next logical step in 2013. Hopefully if 2012 goes as planned the Iron will have to wait. But we'll save the 2012 goals for another post.
High Month: August 65 hours 19 minute, 763 miles
High Week: July 4th 19 hours 6 minutes, 229 miles
